Generate your first image in Studio
To make your first image, open Studio in Image and Art mode, pick an image model, optionally attach a character, describe the shot, pick a quality tier, and generate. Your result lands in the gallery beside the composer, where you can favorite it, refine the prompt, or try again.
Studio is where every SomaLabs image starts. The first generation is the fastest way to learn the loop: choose a model, describe what you want, generate, and refine. This guide walks the basic Image and Art flow end to end so you reach a finished image in a few minutes, then know exactly what to change for the next one.
Open Studio and choose Image and Art mode
Studio combines image creation, video, and an AI chat assistant in one workspace. For your first image, stay in Image and Art mode. The composer on the left is where you build the prompt, and the gallery on the right is where finished results appear as soon as they are ready.
Pick a model and a quality tier
Open the model selector and choose an image model. Each model has its own look and its own credit cost, so the right pick depends on the shot you want. If the model offers more than one quality tier, a tier picker appears; SomaLabs defaults it to the highest tier the model supports, and you can step down to a cheaper tier to save credits.
Attach a character (optional but recommended)
If you have built a character, attach it to the prompt so its reference images guide the look. A character is not required for your first image, but it is what makes a set of images more likely to read consistently. You can attach one later and regenerate once you see how a fresh prompt behaves.
Describe the shot and generate
- Write what you want in the prompt: who is in frame, what they are doing, the wardrobe, the setting, and the mood.
- Check the model and quality tier, and confirm the credit cost shown on the Generate button.
- Press Generate. The job runs and the result appears in the gallery when it is done.
- Open the result, favorite it if you like it, then adjust the prompt and generate again to iterate.
Where your image goes next
Every result is private to your account and stays in your gallery until you remove it. From there you can favorite your best frames, group them into collections, or use a finished still as the starting point for an image-to-video clip where your plan includes video.
